ive just been reading a thread and a couple of people have mentioned slick 50 can someone tell me what it is please and is it any good for the car

It is an oil additive.
You don't need it.
Any oil additives you need are already in the oil.
I agree with David, you don't need it as normal recommended oil has everything that an engine requires...
I do however use slick 50 on all of my engines and have done for the past 25 years or so....
That's my choice and my peace of mind.
Look at it from this point of view: Your body will get all the nutrients it requires from your normal everyday food, we all know that right?
So why do doctors/ health experts recommend multi-vitamins and other pharmaceutical/ health products to top us up with?
I might be easier on engines than other drivers (which I very much doubt)
But I have never, ever had any issues of wear, knocks, taps or smoke from any of the eight or so cars that I have owned in that time (including three Alfa 156's)...
All engines have ended up in their 100,000's + (156,000 in an astra GTE) and still been fit and I do mean, fit.
I even had a radiator failure on the motorway that saw me driving 15 miles plus at max temperature albeit at reduced speed... still no internal or head damage. Testament in itself.
Maybe I have just been lucky, or maybe the products I prefer actually work and do their job.... Like I said it just my preference but I would use it everytime.
