Re: 147 - MPG with Super Unleaded 97RON
Stewart156 - thanks for good explanation. I would maybe add only some general information about compresion ratio/octane number.
-91 octane petrol is recomended for engines with compresion ratio lower than 8,8:1
-95 octane for engines with compresion ration lower than 10,5:1
-98 octane for engines over 10,5:1
/This is only general, depends on engine construction/
I found some dynometer test with Suzuki Liana. When changed from 95 to 99 octane, the power gain was between 0,1 - 2,6%, depending on revs. But this is low compresion ratio engine.
I want only to say, that octane number has a slight influence on the power as well, mesurable in lab, but hardly noticeable in real life.
The higher octane fuels usualy have more aditives and they claim to have carbon cleaning efect on the engine. At least Shell does.
btw. I suppose Shell V Power I am using is the same as Shell Optimax in UK, only with other marketing name
