I agree that 2nd hand suspension arms is a false economy if you are paying someone to fit them for you, but if you can fit them yourself then you can save yourself a good bit of money. We get plenty of breakers in with nearly new upper arms, lower arms, rear transverse arms etc, throwing them in the scrap when they have tens of thousands of miles worth of life left in them is a waste.
You could use a second hand trailing arm if you wish (the one that joins the rear subframe to the hub carrier), brand new genuine ones are £33+VAT each, pattern around £19+VAT each, used £10+VAT each. I would rather fit a decent second hand genuine one than a pattern one - these arms tend to last a good 5 years or 50k ish before they start to have play in them so its not like if you fit second hand ones then you'll have to change them again in 6 weeks.. When the bushes in the trailing arms have worn you have to replace the complete arm, because the bushes cannot be sourced on their own.
You couldn't use a second hand hub bush as they are pressed into the hubs, but they are only £5-6 each new anyway, one per side at the rear. Hope this helps.
