Help alfa gt 3.2 water pump

I have a 2008 GT 3.2 and am wondering if they come out with the upgraded water pump. (I hear the OEM pumps have a plastic impellar and can crack rendering them u/s causing vehicle to overheat. Does anyone know if this is a common problem? I am planning to do the timing belt soon and whilst motor is out will be installing a Q2 diff. Would it be worth replacing the water pump at this time and if so what are they worth?

Yes, with the plastic pumps it's more than a common problem, it's inevitable.

In theory the only cars fitted with the metal pump that solves this problem were the 3.0 gtvs. Everything else has a plastic one.

However, with yours being a 2008 car it may be that the engine was built up with whatever they had left at the factory. So unlikely as it is, it may well have a metal impeller pump.

My advice is to take it off and replace it if it's a plastic one.

If you are going to take it off would it not be worth changing anyway ?

As this would give you the chance to put clean water in.

Yeah as CJO says, change it anyway. Youll have the engine out, so perfect time to renew all the pulleys, and give the engine a real good clean up.
