I have my Alfa (156 TS 2.0 Sportwagon selespeed, from 2000, CF2 engine) for more than two years now, I had some problems in the past (http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...r-revs-up.html
) and recently my gearbox died (some rubber seal went off -> gearbox oil gone -> gear box died) and I had it replaced together with the clutch (which was worn anyway).
Now mechanics faced another problem, and they don't know how to solve it, so I got my car back with it. I thought of asking for an advice here before I go to some other garage.
There are actually two problems:
1. No power for some minutes when engine is cold. I have to drive very slowly with 30-40 km/h for a minute of so. Often switching engine off and on again after 300 meters helps.
(If I understand correctly this could be either MAF, lambda sensor, water temp sensor or butterfly-valve).
2. When the engine is warm, it has erratic idle behavior - engine speed jumps by itself between 1500 and 2500 RPM, also idle speed doesn't go below 1200 RPM (2000 RPM is mostly irritating, especially in the city with a lot of start/stop action). I've made a video today to show better what I mean: ‪Alfa 156 2.0TS Selespeed goes crazy‬‏ - YouTube
(Again, the problems are probably the same as in 1.)
At the garage mechanic said that diagnostic device doesn't show any errors, so he was frustrated and had no clue of what it can be.
I've tried manual ECU reset (the one where you do 45 min with the battery off, then 90sec MAR on/off, then 15 min idle, 10 min off and then drive), that didn't help much, in fact that idle behavior was appearing during those 15 min of warming up!
I thought of buying a new MAF, the rest I can't probably do myself as I don't have access to the garage equipment. Cleaning butterfly-valve seem too risky after reading some sad stories. Then what? go for lambda, water temp sensor and MAF at some garage? And the new butterfly-valve device with new ECU is probably a fortune =(
Another question is, since I didn't have this idle thing before, could it be that mechanic screwed something up? I guess there would be no chance of making him admit that =(
