Help Help on oil rings/pistons?

I've had the car about 7 month now and it's always used quite abit of oil (about 1.5lr to 150/200mls!). I guessed back then it could be the pistons or rings failing and didn't worry too much, just kept the oil topped up.

Last month the MCSF warning was on, took to the local garage and was told the fault code was saying a random/constant misfire. Turned out to be shot spark plugs, so got the set replaced. The mechanic picked up on the blue/grey smoke the car makes when revving about 3000rpm and above and said piston rings would need replacing, no suprise there!

I'm now looking at doing the work, my dads quite good with cars and my cousin, so looking at possibly doing it with the help from them. I just want some help/advise on wether we should do this ourselves or should it be done by a specialist on Alfas?

Also if anyone knows of anything else it could be or where I can get parts from to do the repair. I've also got to replace the front upper/lower wishbones as one seems to be going, so decided to get that done whilst i'm doing the big work.

Quicker/ cheaper to put another engine in or a chance to upgrade to a fiat 5 cylinder turbo engine from the coupe.
