just had car towed home cam belt has snapped its 147 jtd mtec 16v 05
million dollar question
rough price for repair? any one else had this sort of breakdown just like a guide of what damage to my bank balance to expect
I've had it unfortunately..
My car is a 156 2.5 V6 and unfortunately the Arese V6 does have one flaw. During the rainy season over here, certain streets get kinda flooded with about 1 ft - 1 1/2 feet of water.
I was trying to avoid going down a certain street with about 1 ft of water and unfortunately couldn't avoid it. Driving here can be so tough with people in large 4x4s pushing their weight around and it so happened a few of them blocked me from exiting the road, forcing me into the deep end. After that they proceeded to pass me at high speed forcing water over my hood.
To avoid the risk of flooding the engine, I put the car in "D" and let it coast. I didn't touch the accelarator until I was completely clear of the water... Amid angry drivers horning at me telling me to go faster, etc... I plowed through.
Long story short, my engine survived that incident, but the problem doesn't show up immediately. 6 months after I noticed a slight timing issue with the engine. I didn't think of the belt as it was changed about 6 months prior to the water incident.
Anyways it appears that my stint in the flooded street, although brief as it might have been, left me with a cambelt tensioner tightening up which was causing the timing to go whack. Soon after without warning, it snapped.
I had to change the entire engine, costing me 850 pounds for a secondhand unit.
