Alfa Romeo 156

156 2.0TS Head Gasket leak :(

Well poor Sparky is leaving green puddles on the garage floor...

traced the drips to the bottom of the head where it meets the block on the front corner, drivers side...

well i guess it's time to find out what on earth a ribe tool looks like and take Sparky's head off...

will try and post pics of the inner workings for any of you who wonder what is inside the engine...

hubby is not impressed with how pokey the spaces in the engine bay are to get tools into. Any tips or warnings would be great.

Firstly, make sure it's not actually the water pump that is the cause of the leak; the coolant tends to run along the bottom edge of the head, and drips off the corner.
Secondly, external water leaks from the point you've described are quite common on CF3 (metal head gasket) Twin Sparks. Sometimes even a head skim and new gasket will not cure it permanently. If it's just an external leak from the gasket (i.e. no leak into combustion chambers/overheating) I would be seriously tempted to try a product called "K-Seal" before ripping the head off.
