I fancied an Alfa romeo so when the oppotunity arose i bought one, thats without asking anybody else what they thought because i'm not interested, if i was worried about rock solid reliability i'd have bought a Honda or maybe a Toyota, although apart from belt services and Oil etc in nearly 5 years i've had no reliability issues.
Buying any used car is a risk whatever the brand thats why a full history is vital, and thinking you can run any sporting family car on ford fiesta money especially an Alfa is plain silly, they might be cheap enough now to attract a much younger audience but they still need regular maintenance like any car, personally i wouldn't touch a car for less than £2500 and then expect not to have to spend a little to bring it up to standard, so £700 is practically giving it away unless there are lots of jobs outstanding, you pays your money.
Get a Toyota, problem solved.
