Steering wheel leather crumbling away.

Hi guys.

My steering wheel has seen 80k miles now, and looks it. From about 11 o'clock round the top to 5 o'clock, the leather is smooth and worn out, and lately has started to "crumble", bobble up and leave me with bits on my fingers.

Is it terminal? Because its coming away, i assume its gone past the normal restoration products range? Can I get a "new" wheel/pattern wheel anywhere? 2001 black leather, no buttons.

Anyone else had similar? What did you do?

Tried some leather restorer cream?

Failing that, just change it. I've not got any at the moment, unless you'd like to <ahem> upgrade to a wooden one?

My alfa mechanic imports some 156 from europe and japan and claims the build quality is different (read: lower) from our local ones. I'm starting to believe that..

Mine is much the same. I treat it with this stuff when I can be arsed:

It's great for anything leather, especially shoes, and it's not bad at rejuvenating plastics either.

Does anybody know of any leather re-trimmers that could do the wheel in the midlands?
