No it won't. If a fault is detected on the airbag system the light illuminates and the airbag system is disabled meaning you won't get airbag deployment even in an accident.
Most airbag faults are due to the connectors, front driver and passenger airbags are under the front seats, passenger sides are known to cause lights if the seat is moved too far. Disconnect and re-connect - now I never have never done the following but many recommend you disconnect the battery for 15 mins prior to ensure the system is discharged.
For curtain side airbags the connectors are in the boot behind a flap of carpet behind the rear light cluster.
All airbag connectors are yellow.
Even if you solve the problem the light will remain on, you will need alfadiag, fiatecuscan or examiner plus a rarebear (alfaowner forum member) cable to reset it.
