Need help on this one…
My 2005 156 JTS misfires and cuts out at moderate acceleration and the notorious Engine failure message comes on. Problem is not consistent, sometimes everything is fine. Make a quick stop for a few minutes, start up engine and problem is back.
Problem seems worst when engine is warm, but again, it’s not consistent. The only thing that seems to be consistent is that the problem (misfires) only occurs when engine is at load and only above 2.500 - 3.000 RPM. Problem does not occur when revving engine in neutral..(?) Engine idle is steady and OK. So far no apparent issues regarding enginestart, neither cold or warm.
ECU codes only reads random misfire on cylinders 1 or others. Fuel consumption seems to be on the rise. I’m using FiatECUScan and besides misfire error codes, everything seems fine.
Checked and cleaned all connectors and wiring I can think off. Changed the battery, checked and cleaned MAF and throttle controls. Checked and measured all O2 sensors as well. Fuel pressures also seem to be adequate and OK. Fuel injectors have been cleaned. Also checked the intake manifold and exhaust piping for leaks and cracks. Put in new sparkplugs and tested with new coilpacks. Camsensor signaling also seems fine. All this with no effect at all…!
My suspicion is on the cranksensor or maybe the Knocksensor (anyone know if that's consistent with symptoms..?)
Pulled out the cranksensor the other day. Besides from looking a bit “tired” (been in there for 130.000 km…) and having a little chip in the casing (wonder how it got that) it seemed OK and Ohm’ed at 0.9 Ohm as I believe it should. Put it back in – but I’m still suspicious and considering replacing it.. (Should I…?)
I’m running out of ideas and things to check or replace… anyone got any ideas or experience with similar problems..? Am I on the right track regarding the crank sensor..?
Could really use some help on this one…!
