Misfire, MCSF's, then engine died - help!
My 156 2.0JTS has a problem!
It started with an MCSF warning. Then it started a misfire and seemed to drop onto 3 cylinders. I reduced speed, but the engine died and will not restart. On opening the bonnet, there was a burning smell (I think electrical) and smoke coming from under the engine cover.
FiatEcuScan gives me:
P0420 - Catalytic Converter
P0430 - Catalyser 2
P0353 - Coil 3
P0300 - Misfire (Generic)
P0303 - Cylinder 3 Ignition failure
P0191 - Fuel High Pressure Regulator
From the first codes, I assume that it is most likely the coil pack on cylinder 3. But what is the Fuel High Pressure Regulator go to do with it?
If it is a coil pack burnt out, would it have developed from the running on 3 cylinders to failing to start at all (the engine turns over, but does not even seem to try to start)?
I cleared the error codes, but still will not start. After trying to restart, I got just the P0191 code recorded.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and what I could try before getting it towed for repair?
