This is my first post, so be gentle
I bought a 2002 156 2.4 JTD SW (and I think it's the 136 bhp, has the AR engine number) last September and, aside from the EGR and MAF replacements on purchase, it has been largely trouble-free. Overall, very pleased at joining Club Alfa and totally loving the engine note from 3000 rpm - wouldn't believe it's a diesel. I came from a Focus ST170, which was brilliant fun to drive but absolutely awful to own... everything went wrong.
However, there are a couple of niggles when driving that I would like a bit of advice on before I go to the garage. I know these have been covered before but I wanted to ask my own, specific questions (call me a picky bugger).
1, there's sometimes (not always) a clunk when changing gear. This is especially noticeable when the engine is cold but can happen at any external temperature (although it did seem to disappear when we had the cold winter). I've never noticed it over bumps or driving in-gear so I'm fairly sure it's not suspenion-related. Could it be the engine mounts?
2, squeak from the front going over bumps. Again, this is intermittent and doesn't happen if I've been driving for a distance - it seems to disappear after about 20 minutes but can then reappear the next time I get in the car. Some days it just doesn't squeak. Had the track control arm (I think) replaced in March for the MOT. Is it as simple as lubrication?
3, the wheel alignment is out. What's the cheapest place to get this sorted in the North West (Preston or Leyland if possible)?
The rest I can live with - had no air con since I bought it and suspect it needs a new *insert technical thing here* rather than just a regas so have been avoiding that as it's not urgent, the window motors are slowly dying, the air vents don't blow with any real gusto and the rear washer doesn't work.
Once I've sorted these out, I might look at trying to reduce the body roll in fast corners (better anti-roll bar?) before adding some extra juice to the engine.
Thanks for any help!
