Ok, I'll try and keep this short while giving you the required info. Bought a 2.4 SW new in 2003, being aware of the bottoming out problem by previously owning a selespeed, I had a set of koni top adjustables fitted to the front after 700 miles, and kept the original springs on it. Transformed the car in terms of ride and especially handling, lose sloppy feeling gone, body control much much better, and some improvment on the bottoming out, depending on how stiff you set them. I left the rear alone, as I never felt it needed any improvement. Fast foward to 2009, motorbike hits me, one front Koni bent (along with every other susp component on the front left), couldn't get replacement adjustables, so went for a set of FSD's. Fitted the fronts, again with the standard springs (140,000 miles on them, but still good). I also left the rear alone, again, and put the rear FSD's in the shed. Car much better, bit knobbly at low speed on bad surfaces, but bottoming out banished, ride and handling pretty much the same, slight improvements. Aug 2010, decided to fit the rears, again using the standard springs, mistake. EB spares never told me the SW needed different springs, as having nivomats fitted as standard, the self adjusting element of the shock does some of the springs work, so with fsd's in, the car was on the floor at the rear. New set of springs sent by EB, only one type available, fitted, car way to high at the the rear. Car being pushed down onto front suspension, ruining the ride at the front. Still does not bottom out though. When I put a load in the back it levels out nicely and the ride quality at the front is restored. Am trying to decide to put nivomats back in (kept them, in the shed) or try and find a set of springs that will bring the ride height back to where it was. Anyway, fsd's are good, don't worry about going to low on the ride height as the problem of bottoming out has little to do with the height, and everything to do with the awful, cheap front shocks fitted in the factory. 165k miles on the front springs now
