I'm running standard pads at the moment but I've been advised by 3 separate 156 v6 owners to fit red stuff pads , what alfa do you drive ? More advice the better imho
Mines a 2.5 V6 156
I do a lot of track with my other car (rx8) and find the red stuff pads perfect for that as you manage to get plenty of heat in them to get them to bite hard.
The red stuff pads are intended for track use really, as they are not very good from cold, and you will find that untill you warm them up after a few miles you will really have to stomp on the pedal to stop. The reds also create a lot of dust and prone to squeel.
Ive currently got Yellow stuff pads which are intended for fast road use, they dont create any noise, no dust and dont take much heating up, they are quite good from cold.
The red stuff pads are intended fro cars pushing over 200bhp.
I would say get yellow.
Ive got standard discs and pads on the Alfa, and although they stop you ok, i like a bit more agression in the bite, so i will be sticking yellow stuff in there with some EBC ultimax discs, which again are excellent.
The one thing you dont want to try and save money on is brakes!
Ive also converted my RX8 to run on 5.1 brake fluid and fitted stainless brake hoses, this made a MASSIVE difference in brake feel.
They also look good behind the wheels.
