HJ on 147 oil pump prob
I reproduce the following, from Honest John's Daily Telegraph agony column, for your information and comments:
Big bang theory
My one-year-old Alfa Romeo 147 2·0 Selespeed blew up and one of the conrods came out through the block. The car is still covered by its full manufacturer warranty, but I have been blamed because the engine has apparently been starved of oil at some point. It will cost me £3,500 to repair. I have been adding a litre of oil every three to four weeks and had the car serviced at 12,000 miles. Could this be a manufacturing fault and do I have any grounds for appeal?
The oil pump has probably failed and starved the engine - it's a common fault with 2·0 Twin Spark models. That gives you grounds to press for a new engine under warranty.
