Accelerator not working 2.4 jtd
Hi I have an intermittent problem in which the accelerator appears not to be connected to the engine when I press it. I first noticed it a couple of days ago when I accelerated briskly and felt that after that first shove up to about 2.5k revs it felt like there no more go and then when I changed into third it still felt flat. I decided to drive to continue driving as it then picked up and it was only another half mile to go.
I then left it parked for about half an hour and then when I started it and started to reverse it stalled. Not once but twice when I depressed the clutch. There was no power and even when I put my foot to the floor it would only rev to 2k revs and even then it took a long time to get the revs from tickover to there.
I managed to get it out of the car park at Tesco and then it picked up ok, but the next morning I couldn't drive it as it wouldn't even rev with the foot to the floor on the accelerator.
I did the throttle reset and that worked for a while until I turned it off and restarted with the same issue. I then did a full ecu and throttle reset, took it out for a thrash for about 20mins and then turned it off and on a few times. No problems.
Next morning, no joy. ARRRGGH. I checked turbo and inlet hoses, the air filter and egr for gaps or leaks. I changed one of the blanking plates of the egr and checked the MAF for a good connection and still no joy.
I slammed the bonnet down and then started it to move it so I could then do what I call the Alfa shuffle, (put my head in my hands and wish I could have bought a dull reliable car).
It started and revved with no problem. Since then I have driven twice on the motorway, about 60 miles in one journey and 230 in the other in two days and no problems at all. In fact it's running better than before.
I opened the bonnet this morning after a quick drive just to check all OK and noticed the MAF lead disconnected. I've left it that way for fear of getting the same issues again, but the MAF is only about 2 months old, albeit from AutoLusso breakers, but has been working fine.
I have also deleted the air box and am running a cone filter attached directly to the turbo with the MAF and an adaptor to the inlet pipe. The cone sits just to the right of the radiator drawing in cold air from the front of the engine as I cut out the plastic flap at the front and added some flexi alu pipe to direct cold air into the filter.
Rambling I know so I apologise.
Question is, although I think I know the answer, do I need a new MAF or MAP sensor ? I've recently cleaned the MAP sensor as it was filthy clogged and so I used a good degreaser first, then soaked it in carb cleaner before refitting. It did improve running and allowed it rev more than 3k revs without the dreaded engine light flickering.
