Was on my way to pick up some computer equiptment in Slough, when I came utpo a humpback bridge, I used to take the bridge at around 20Mph normally with my Audi A2, so I preceeded as normal. As I was near the peak of the bridge I felt the car may not be able to take it at that speed so started to break... I was too late, suddenly the brakes were not doing anything and the car launched over the bridge it was like one of those car chase scenes out of the movies, what made it worst was there was oncoming traffic I almost closed me eyes as the car just went BANG back onto the road about 5 metres from the peak of the bridge and I regained control. I continued up the road for a bit (very narrow) until found somewhere to stop, looked under the car everything looks fine just the obvious scraping of the underguard, continued on my journey. On my way back I had been noticing a slight mermering coming from the engine as low speeds in high gear (45 in 4th) I decided to pull over to take a look under the bonet, nothing stood out so I looked through the little hole under the car near the right front wheel in the underguard on the drivers side (I am assuming its suppose to be there as I didnt see any bits fly off my car). There is a break (tear) in the metal shield looking thing (at the front of the engine near where the dipstick is its at the bottom) I am assuming this happened when I heard the bang noise over the bridge when I landed. I thought looks like heatshield so should be fine then I reved the engine hard (while stationary with bonet up) to ensure that the sound wasnt from my imagination I heard no more weird noises, so I was just having a little look where the break was in the shield when I hear a snapping noise, it sounded like a belt had snapped, but the car was still runing as I could move the car. I just closed the bonet and drove home as carefully as possible. On my way home I kinda forgot that the engine had damage so i pushed her a but, as I went over a very low speedhump (one that gives no trouble in the alfa) I hears a scrape, thought its ok then I saw something black fly away from under the car. I stopped the car looked under it and saw nothing so continued safely untill I got home.
My questions, does anyone know what that noise was which went snap when I reved the engine hard, the noise came from a belt system by the front right wheelat the bottom of the engine.
Also do you think that any damage occured (not surperficial underguard) can be claimed by waranty if there is any engine damage/ suspesion damage (doesnt appear to be any). Car is going in on Thursdays for other repairs so will mention the damage then (possibly wont tell them how it happened though). Will get pictures of the tear when I can find a working camera.
On a sidenote I think the reason why the car acted the way it did is because of the stiffness of the Alfa suspension so the wheels didnt travel correctly so the car just launched
