!66 CD changer
I posted a thread a few weeks ago regarding a CD changer for the 166. The original (Becker) unit was the obvious choice but I was informed that some Sony units also fitted. I deliberated long and hard about this but decided to fit an FM modulation unit as I really wanted MP3 capability. This resulted in the purchase of a Kenwood KDC-CMP59FM 10 disc changer unit.(available at reasonable cost as it's been out a while)
The fitting of this took some time especially as I could not get behind the ICS unit. I opted to cut into the aerial cable under the rear seat, position the FM unit in the space below the Ski hole and fit the changer on the battery cover. Finally I positioned the display unit in the front ash tray complete with soft touch lid to hide it. Other wiring connections were fairly easy although getting under the carpet was a laugh.
The result is really good. The sound is crisp and clear and surprisingly good through the OE speakers. Just tune one of your buttons to the frequency of the FM unit and off you go. Radio reception from the original unit is unchanged.
So I have the potential to house countless CDs worth of music and never open the changer.
I hope this information helps someone as I was wery hacked off with specialist audio places telling me I can't do this or that, and then telling me the price.
