hi mate, the glass/rubber overhang along the top edge is minimal,im pretty its all that plastic edge as well and as u said it is the only option to have a rear carrier.
as regrads to the strap fastener that hooks over the edge of tailgate, u could make on thats wider and deeper to speard the load, and i wonder if u could make a "L" shaped one to use one of the hinge bolt on the tailgate, so it stands up and not curls over the glass.?
i know in the pics it looks like its clamped to the glass but its really clamped to the hidded frame
ooooh there is one more option, 2dent puller suction clamps stuck to the roof, that would be ok with mine as it as 4 top straps, 2 left on tailgate for safety
remember the total time of the rack on a car isnt that long......2 to 3 hours while u get from a to b
