156 restoration project?
First off, I'm new here so hello! Have an S reg 156 that I bought a year ago and absolutely love.
Just before Christmas, I was forced to take my alfa off the road basically due to a house move and some money problems. Since then it has sat idle on my driveway.
Before taking it off the road, the wipers had stopped working. It also had an intermittent problem where when the engine was cold, it would basically have no power when you put your foot down, and would hardly move. When the engine warmed up, it would be ok, which leads me to believe this is probably a cracked pipe (would you agree?).
A couple of other things - it had had some welding done before I bought it but all seemed ok. There was a squeaking from one of the wheels which I think was either a bearing or the brake pads rubbing against the disc. Never found out if it was either.
Now then. I love this car so much that I really want to get it back on the road. I am a very enthusiastic amateur mechanic, but not the most knowledgable or experienced. I wanted to know:
A) do you think it is worth trying to restore the car at it's age? Would it be more cost effective to scrap it and buy another one?
B) is there anything in particular that I should check now that it has been idle for 6 months?
I was still using the car up to the day the tax ran out. When I bought it, it had plenty of history from alfa aid and cam belt had been done 20k ago. It had full MOT when I bought it (private sale).
Sorry for the long post guys. Just really trying to work out what to do with my alfa!
