Hi everyone - I have this problem. 2 things bugging me - Firstly, the embarassment factor, and the fact that it must be annoying to others nearby; and, secondly, whether or not this could actually cause any serious damage.
I've read threads that seem to say:
a) just live with it;
b) remove starter, clean and re-grease; or
c) replace starter.
I'm writing this so a) is not what I wanna do. The general consensus is that it's a bit of a PITA job to do, but I'd be happy to chuck a weekend at it, and I have a good set of spanners these days.
So, does anyone have advice on removing and cleaning up the starter motor? Pitfalls? Any subsidiary issues that I will need to watch out for? For example, one thread (and one thread only) started to talk about removing the throttle body and having to re-set something. That seemed to have been to improve access, whereas other threads just moaned about tricky access and got on with it.
Anything anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.
