GT 2.0 JTS Misfire
My 2.0 JTS has developed a misfire, which is accompanied by the Engine Management Light and the Motor Control System Failure message. These warnings usually only appear when the engine is idle and will disappear if you rev the engine for a few seconds. It's quite lumpy at turnover but absolutely fine when the revs are any higher. I took it to an Alfa specialists and they said it was likely to be one of the following:
1) An injector needs replacing (they thought this was most likely);
2) The ECU;
3) A very obscure wiring fault (although they said this was very unlikely).
A couple of other suggestions I have heard were:
1) It could be the idle control valve if it's only happening at idle;
2) I do a lot of short journeys, so it was suggested I put some redex in and give it a thrash for a few miles...the old 'Italian tune-up!' (although there seems to be mixed opinion about this! It is, however, only a few quid a bottle...so...is it worth a try?)
