156 jtd lost drive

hi to everyone ,just bought a 156 jtd with the clutch gone ,had no drive at all ,pedal felt fine ,disengaged fine ,selected the gears no problem ,but wouldnt drive ,got a slight movement when you let the pedal up as if it was tyring to bite but not enough to move the car ,went out today to start taking the gearbox out and started it up and the clutch was fine ,backed it out of the drive ,drove off first gear fine ,into second ok just as the turbo kicked in it let go and lost all the drive ,back to not moving again, towed it backwards and it bumpstarted in reverse ,then drove it gently up and down the road again thru all the gears ,no problem ,went down the road again into third put my foot down and just as the turbo kicked in bang,it let go and lost the drive again ,has anybody had a similar fault or have any ideas ? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks phil

Clutch slip is normally just that - slip, not complete loss of drive, but the only other thing I could think of would be badly worn engine mounts which have allowed the drive shaft to pull out of the gearbox - but that is very unusual.

Have you checked the salve cylinder to see that your pedal movement is actually being translated to the clutch? They're a common failure.

If the slave cylinder is U/S it will be pumping brake fluid into the bell housing and it will then leave pools of fluid on the ground.

The fluid reservoir will also be emptying and will be low.

If the Master Cylinder is gone the reservoir will still be emptying too

Sounds like a chunk of your diff is missing & floating around inside the diff housing.
