Cam-Belt change

Hi all. just a quick question. Im going to get my cam-belt changed soon so phoned to get a quote. I've been quoted just under £500 for it. Its that about right? Thats £250 more than my old BMW or my Mondeo ST.

I know Alfa's are not cheap but £500 for a cam-belt change is alot of money.

I have a Alfa 156 2.0L on a 51 plate.

Seems about right given the current prices..
I think the best I've seen is just under £400, for my 2.0TS.

£500 only for the cam-belt it's a bit steep ... a full service including cam-belt change at alfaworkshop.co.uk is £380 for a 1.6/1.8 and £430 for a 2.0.

That sounds like main dealer pricing. Check what is included - Cam belt and tensioner/balance belt/cam variator (probably not). It's too steep for just cam belt/tensioners.

Yours is a 1.8, the 2.0 has a balance shaft belt/idler/tensioner as well

Plus budget around £100 for all the special tools you need if you are going to DIY it.

If that's just for the cambelt it is expensive check what they are including as "cambelt change" probably means the balances haft belt as well.

Is that for all three belts and all the tensioners?

its was for just the cam belt and tensioners. They said if i wanted water pump doing at same time that would be £94.00 + vat on top. This wasn't an Alfa dealer but was a Alfa Specialist.

I've priced the parts. £80.74 for cambelt kit. £32.00 for water pump and £ 21.60 balance belt. They dont do the tensioners for the balance belt so would have to get them from somewhere else.

I could buy all this but i wouldn't want to do it myself as i just dont have the know how.
