alloy paint

Hi all

had a go at painting one of my alloy wheels but the shade came out too dark and a bit dull .

i used that simonez 5 wheel silver paint and a clear laquer .

its a shame really caus i think i did a good neat job .

i want to gat the right shade of silver for when i do the other 3 .

someone said somewhere that the titan silver shade is pretty bright and that BMW used it .

has anyone got any ideas or experience in this kind of thing ?

Ford Stratos Silver (Code 9959) seems to be a popular choice.

I've always found that using aerosol metallic and lacquer leads to a dull finish unless you are prepared to wait a week or two at least for the metallic coat to cure properly and then use a top quality lacquer that isn't watered down with loads of thinners.

I always use Ford moondust silver you can often buy a litre ready made from autopaints for 20.00 this is a lot but enough basecoat to spray 3 or 4 sets. You can laquer them with single pack laquer within an hour.Single pack laquer needs no hardener so what you dont use can be put back in the tin for next time.
