As I see it, the government need to raise money, for what ever reason. One of the easy ways to do that is tax fuel. We all use it so we all pay. Through the nose.
Do we all run economical cars?
Do we all carry on paying high fuel prices?
The amount of fuel that we buy is, largely, our choice. The only way not to pay high fuel taxes is not to buy fuel. We won't do that though will we?
If we all only bought enough fuel to get to work and back, and nothing for leisure or pleasure, the tax office would not raise enough revenue, so they would just raise the taxes on something else.
We will pay the high taxes, one way or another.
The problem isn't the high taxes on fuel. or anything else. It is where the taxes are spent by the government.
Which a whole different story, and one that cleverer people than me have not been able to solve.
