My 156 2.0 jts - doesnt drink a litre of oil a month, there are no noises coming from the suspension, front or rear, the idle is fine and constant, it pulls with no flat spots from 1k up to 6K rpm, its mpg is 31-35 dependin how i drive, there are no problems with the engine temp, no mcf warnings, no limp home mode, no squeals from the brakes, the MAF is fine, the lambda's are fine........
should i demand that alfa sort this out immediately for me
My 156 is the same as yours and is still very willing to rev to the red line and drinks very very little oil between 6 month oil services approx (1/4 of a cup).
All the electrics work inc seats, aircon etc and has been like this for the last 4 1/2 years.
The only issue was when a certain specialist did a full belt service and fitted a faulty waterpump last year, all fixed now.
Apart from that no complaints, still has gleaming red metalllic paint and no dings or rust.
I like the sportwagon and would have replaced it with a newer one by now but because its been a gem i don't want to replace it just yet, (never owned a car longer than 2 years).
Does seem a bit hit and miss, like you i got lucky i also think a full history is vital and as many invoices and old mot's as possible help.
I don't bother touching wood, i know this car inside out and trust it 100% most electrics seem to be bosch and it all works perfectly.
After reading some of the horror stories on here, ie rusty floors/ roofs, belt failure etc its nice to know not all Alfa's suffer from these problems but as a precaution i do some preventative maintenance jobs like cleaning under the car and lubricating the suspension twice a year, checking the undercoat protection and changing oil an
d filter every 3000 miles or so, also brake fluid every other year along with steering fluid etc so hopefully preventing any large future bills, never been this thorough on any car before but this one is worth the effort, great cars.
