Gear linkage or drive shaft?
So get a phone call form the wifey today, Car is broken help..
cycle over there turns out after a loud noise when turning round in a car park about a mile later down the road when coming to a stop the car no longer had any drive.
linkage seems fine but it was dark so I couldn't see in there too well and its just been pushed up into a farmers driveway till I can get it towed in the morning.
Having a quick look at it there is some shaft noise when the engine is running in neutral and no drive when you attempt to engage the gears, just a grinding sound. The gear box has been a little odd over the winter, extremely tough to change gear but I had that down to thick gearbox oil (brought the car from Spain with me to Sweden bit of a climate change for it!). There was also a repetitive knocking sound when the clutch was depressed or you coasted in neutral. I spoke to an indy alfa guy in Spain before i left about it (its an intermittent fault and disappeared for about 4 months) he said he had seen it before and it was an engine mount issue that he had never managed to solve on any 147 before and so far handt done any harm.
Having had a goose through the other threads on here via search im going with my original feeling its a drive shaft issue (the shaft rub in idle is the worry)
Anyone else had something similar? advice? I will take it into the local alfa dealer tomorrow (cant find an indy thats interested in alfa's sadly
