I have found a lot of threads about problems with the electric windows, but I wanted to ask if dust or pollens could cause a similar problem.
Lately, my GT's driver side window was making screechy noises when opening/closing especially when dry. It is spring time, so a lot of pollen dust land on it, so, I thought that might be related. You could see the motor is having trouble pulling down/up the window. And sometimes it would stop, and I wet the window thinking it might be getting stuck on the rubber, and some time later it would work, maybe as a result of wetting, or maybe not.
And since two days, it achieved another level: Pressing the button will give the beep sound, but the window doesn't move at all. And it stops at weird positions, and it wouldn't top up when the door is closed. There doesn't seem to be any fuses for the electric windows according to the manual (apart from door control unit, which might be just the central locking mechanism) Anyways, it is possibly not fuse anyway, since it comes back to itself sometimes. I am not sure a loose connection can be the reason, as the button keeps beeping when you press it, and I don't hear a loud engine that has trouble moving. I am not sure this is regular, but when I close and open the door a few times, the window moves and starts behaving normal for at least once, and then I don't dare to touch it to avoid having an open window while it rains
- So, I am guessing it is not a fuse problem.
- I am considering to try the ECU reset suggestion in the related threads, by disconnecting negative terminal for a while, and putting it back. But does this kill other stuff that was a memorized setting for the car?
- It might be possible that dust has accumulated inside the lever mechanism. So, it might be worthwhile to open the door panel and check it and clean it. But, there was a 147 door panel removal DIY, and I am scared to give it a try as I am not the most handy person and I don't wanna end up not being able to put it back. If it is anything like the headlight clusters, especially. I am in Zurich, so, asking a garage to do it might be costly. So, is it a difficult process requiring extra hardware or help to align stuff, etc?
.... And another thing: the the holder plastic of the little turn signal flasher on the right side of the car cracked and fell, so it is loose. I attached a simple plastic to hold it a bit tighter, but best would be to replace the little thing. Though I couldn't find anything on ebay, or alfaworkshop.co.uk. What would be the best words to search for it? 'gt side turn signal flasher', 'repeater', 'blinker'?
Thanks to those who spent the time to read this post..
