Brake job - General questions
I recently acquired a 2001 156 wagon 1.8 ts. There is plenty of pad all around, but all discs could use a resurfacing, if not replacement, and since this was mentioned in the last inspection, I must deal with it before July. I haven't done a brake job in like twenty years, but think I am up to it. My questions are:
1. Should I just resurface the discs? I would probably lose 2-3mm in total thickness, but I think it would be the first turning of the original discs, and the car seems to have been driven gently in it's first 80k miles. I most often have a toddler and a pregnant wife in the car, so I'm not driving like a rich kid, but I do run at 90 to 100 mph on the German Autobahn, and I like to have a little fun once in awhile.
2. If I replace the discs, should I steer clear of the cheaper brands? The price ranges from 22 to 85 quid from a major German online supplier. Typical brands I see are Metzger, NK, ATE, and Bosch.
3. The pads seem to have been replaced recently. Is there any good reason to replace them again on this job? I find the replacement pad prices rather shocking.
