selespeed acting up after box change. update: plot twist!
new guy here, but i have been here as a guest looking for answers to problems in the past, there is a huge amount of knowledge here and i got a problem now i struggle to fix.
recap from the beginning so you got the most info:
engine was leaking oil out of the crankshaft gasket (or whatever they call them in the UK) on the gearbox side (always the expensive side). after ripping off the box and flywheel it turns out that the gasket is fine but the 2 plugs that seal off the balancing shafts were leaking. put box back on, replaced all the oil because the crap that came out was more like crude oil. box started to grind second gear after that. last week i replaced the entire box with a new (50k milage) one. even broke off that stupid "ear" that holds one of the 2 long bolts next to the gear selector but was welded on again by a professional alu welder and strengthend at the same time to prevent it breaking again. at closer inspection it seems that the old owner of the car had a simmilair problem as the ear on the old box was glued on with some bathroom sealant.
now the new box is on and did a full EOL with alfadiag and set the clutch to 28.35 and reindex the cluch for silky-smooth operation. only problem was that CS oil was nowere to obtain so the local carparts shop found replacement oil and put that in. green stuff and thin as hell. bleeding the system was done in a jiffy with that stuff. with that regular ATF that everyone puts in you need 3 weeks of cluch operations to fully get the air out.
now the real fun starts: after a few days of perfect operation it refuses to go from 3 to 4 but it will go from 5 to 4 and it simply refuses to complete a new EOL. the error the EOL gives from the sensor readout is "error selecting 2a". all gear changes are silky-smooth but it simply skips 4th and after 3~5 sec it dumps it in 5.
i am not fully retarded when it comes to sillyspeeds and alfa in general (i will post my project 156 in due time) but this is a bit beyond me.
Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
