back to your how does it know egr flow is too low, i think it calculates or estimates it from the readings from the maf sensor.when it opens egr it expects maf flow to drop x% as engine should replace that flow from egr, if it doesnt drop enough it assumes egr is faulty not opening or blocked up.

yes it does feel like yours but I think I've found my needs more diesel in the mixture as it's running quite lean at the moment
