Crazed Alfa 156 JTD Alternator pulley fell off!

I had having rattles and squeals for about a week or so on my 2000 156 2.4 JTD when it got significantly worse! Sounded like something was hitting the bodywork.... so after a drive home at idle (10 miles) took a look under the bonnet. I was expecting to find tensioner was shagged but the alternator pulley was sliding on shaft.

Anyone else had this one? Dropped alternator off today but can't find a route out of engine bay

Please someone tell me I don't have to drop the subframe off as I did this last month ro replace steering rack and anti rollbar.

I asked my lucky 8 ball if my Alfa was going to pass the MOT first time. The reply was " Unlikely"

The service history of mine shows one breakdown when the alternator pulley fell off. I feel your pain as access does look rather tight.......
