I can't answer your question, but I have the same quandry. I just bought a 2001 156 estate with 185/65-15 snowtires on the original rims. I also want to procure some 16" or 17" rims and put on some wider and lower profile summer tyres. My German registration allows me 205/55-16 tyres on 6-1/2" rims, or 215/45-17 on 7" rims. But, most of the 17" Alfa rims I see on the used market here are 7-1/2" wide , and many claim to come from Alfa 156's.
You are wanting to go a full inch wider than what my registration allows, but the same tire size. Hopefully some other members will tell us how wide we can go without touching the wheel wells and fenders. You must also consider legality and liability issues. In Germany, you are allowed a deviation as long as you take the car to a state inspector and get it approved. If you make a mod, don't get it approved, and get in an accident, and your insurance company finds it, then they will try to deny the payout, no matter how unrelated the mod was to the accident. I can imagine that Norway has a similar rules.
Anyway, How wide can we go on our 156's?
