cheers for all the suggestions on replacing them, I am going to fit a new engine as ive taken the head off today and not only has the belt snapped its droped a valve into number one cylinder as well, extremley rare for both to happen i thought?, so i gues the engines pretty much scrap as there is a pretty good chance the connecting rod will be bent as the valve went striaght through the piston and hit the wee end bearing and also wrecked the entire compression chamber on the head!.... Thanks for all replys, but no one stated why only alfas require shells when a belt snaps, someone said its cause they get compressed, but so do all other engines when a belt snaps if the valves dont clear the pistons. Just curious, do alfa make a lot softer shells?, or do the valves sit a lot closer to the piston ( meaning when the belt brakes theyre is a lot more stem on the valve to try and bend?), cheers guys.
