Air conditioning pump problem. 156 2.0 TS
I'm hoping to get some advice on my air conditioning pump. I hadn't used the air conditioning all winter, then I switched it on last night I noticed it wasn't working very well, but passed no remarks on it.
When I parked the car and got out I noticed a smell like burning clutch. Left the car sitting for about two hours then started it up. There was a loud growling noise for a few seconds then it turned into a lower whirring noise. Was late at night so I drove home.
This morning I looked around the pulley, There was plastic which had melted and leaked out from the centre, It also looked like there was heat build up on the outermost part of the pulley.
I have two questions.
What sort of a job is it to replace the pump? Or
Can I just use a shorter belt for a car with no air con and 'delete' the air conditioning pump?
The car is a 2001 156 Veloce 2.0 TS.
Thanks in advance.
