Now , I've been the prowd owner of a 2001 147 sillyspeed lusso for the last 9 months. Wonderful little car , the odd selespeed warning and VDC fail every now and again , but nothing too drastic
Now , I seem to have deleloped a gear selection problem. I've been trawling the forums for hours and hours trying to find hints and pointers but nothing really stands out.
Here are the symptoms in chronological order ....
2 weeks ago , noticed after a hour long drive that when I changed fron 1st to 2nd gear that the display on the dash would say I was in 4th ( although I was in 2nd ) chance up from 2nd and it jumps straight to 5th , changed back down 2 gears to third and everything was ok.
This happened a few times in the following week although it only happens when the car is warm and had been driven for 15 mins.
Decided to take it to a local Alfa garage after being told that it was probably the accumulator.
Started car , dropped the wife at work , drove the car for 40 mins around town with absolutely no problems at all.
Stopped for 15 mins to go to the shop , got back in car , drove off and it's jumping gears again.
Took car to local independant Alfa garage , they changed the accumulator for me .
Got the bill for £125 , then they tell me that the car is still doing the same thing.
They have run the diagnostic thingy and say that nothing is showing up and the problem could poss be electrical.
So I said I'd take the car back and book it in for them to have a look next week.
On driving back from the garage , the car is jumping from 1st to 3rd , 2nd to 4th and just about every gear except the one I need.
Got home and turned off the engine , then tried selecting the gears with just the ignition lights on and It's still jumping numbers on the dash display .
Has anyone got any ideas ? I'm not the most mechanically minded person in the world , I couldn't even tell you where the selespeed box is located !
But if it's as simple as unbolting or cleaning somthing I'll give it a go !
Cheers in advance
