I'm hoping for some advice and a pin pointing of the problem following these symptoms ? ANY comments will be appreciated, don't hold back
This is for my 156 Sele 2001
- about a week ago i noticed that something is strange - when the engine is running i hear this constant pumping sound, maybe 1.5 seconds apart. Upon further investigation (checking under the hood) the sound / motion was coming from the gearbox (right where i fill up the gearbox oil). This 1.5 second apart pumping causes my gear display to dim out slightly every time it "pumps" - so it taps from the battery - could this be my sele pump?
- when opening the door the pump runs for less than 2 seconds
It use to be the normal length (5 - 14seconds). When i turn the key to MAR there is no priming
- I moved the car out of the parking bay to the front of the house (not even 10 meters) and it wouldn't switch on after i switched it off. The gearbox light flashed.
After sobbing over my car for two days (i left it in front of the house) I went back this morning and guess what :O ALFA LOVE! IT WORKS! It primed for 2 seconds when i opened the door, not ideal, but at least it started. The gearbox worked fine. I didn't drive it. Switched it off.
Now, today is really chilly as opposed to the first failure day - which was warm. This makes me suspect a wiring problem?
a Pressure problem?
I'm having someone come and take a look at the wiring. I would really appreciate some wiring advice (is there another cable i could check, besides for the red one in front of the battery?)
and how do i know for sure it is pressure?
Whats causing that 1.5 pumping sound? Does my pump need to be re-calibrated? It was re-calibrated 6000 kms ago?
on another post i mentioned that my rear brake lights aren't working either, could this be linked to the other problems via wiring?
Does anyone have a wiring guide for the 156? Or know where I could get one? it would be appreciated
