34.5 mpg - is that good on a 2.0TS?

I was convinced I was getting extremely poor mpg and recently it's felt like I'm putting in 10 every 2 days to go on 2 x 14 mile round trips. Yesterday I decided to test it out and drove extremely carefully and managed to get 34.5 mpg out of it which really suprised me. What do you get out of it when driving carefully? With the current price in petrol I may have to stick with this "sensible" driving lol

Member car:

GTV V6 3.0

I got my 155 TS upto 43MPG but that car was seriously light and had no comfort electronics to zap power and use fuel.

My GTV TS up until I blew it up the other week got an average of 20MPG and a best of just 24!

four recent runs, mailnly motorway, have produced between 35 and 37mpg... that's not ragging it but generally trying to keep between 3250 and 3500 rpm... which is just above the legal limit.

What has made the biggest difference recently was replacing an ailing NTK lambda with a Bosch unit and a new thermostat, although mine was working it was leaking. It needs new plugs and probably overdue on the air-filter ... then we will see shat a 2.0 cam really do! Note: no a/c ...split in pipe ensures that doesn't work.

I'm getting between 31-35 mpg out of my 2.0 jts and thats a mix of around town journey's and 'vigorous' fun driving -which is a lot more than i was getting out of my audi, and beats the wifes 2.0 turbo volvo by miles

Wow, thats great! My 2.0 TS always averages 28mpg, even when driving like a vicar on sedation! All lambdas x3 and thermostat seem ok and have replaced maf. When I need to do more miles I borrow the wife's diesel!

Wow looks like it's not so bad after all!

I hate to think what the car actually does when driving at my usual pace. I don't think I want to even work it out because it's probably quite scary.

Way more than I ever got. But I only got what I deserved, never gave economy a thought.

That's pretty good. Mine is mainly doing short hops at the moment and is getting 25 at a push.
