Poly Bush review

Poly Bush review

Brief history:
Oct 08 - Pick up a 147 1.9 JTDm with 31K miles. It needed a new passenger side upper wishbone fitting, new aftermarket wishbone duly fitted (brand unknown).
Jan 10 - At 52K miles, passenger side upper wishbone is squeaking; replaced bushes with Superflex ones from EB Spares; installed as per instructions using lube provided (note metal parts are plated steel not stainless)
Mar 11 – At 64K miles – passenger side upper wishbone is squeaking horrendously; upon striping down the Superflex bushes, it could be see that the internal knurled finish (helps retain the lub) on the poly bush had partially worn away and left a deposit on the metal spacer, both bushes showed similar wear but exhibited negligible play.
Fitted new uppers and lowers from Shop4Parts (Birth Brand) Car now silent.
See how long these last.
In conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend fitting poly bushes to a road going car, as they don’t last as long as replacement arms and the increase in stiffness over new standard bushes is negligible. Parts cost will be the same over 2 years; you’ll just have to do the job twice if using poly bushes. On a track car there may be a difference.
Just my observations and experiences…
Hope this helps

That's interesting - we put Superflex on my bro's 147 last year and the metal parts were all stainless. I'd previously tried the Powerflex ones in mine - plated metal bits which corroded and the poly didn't last long at all.

My bro's are still going well (SO FAR!!)

I think I may just stick standard spec arms on when I do the uppers soon. Anyone know how long the Birth ones last or is Alfa OE the only way to go?
