Ouch - that sounds bad. Funnily enough, I had a similar experience with mine and basically the mechanic hadn't fitted it correctly.
My advise would be to take lots of photographs of how it was (i.e, before anyone else fixes it), or ask the mechanic who has fixed it (if that's what you've done) to write a statement.
Next, you need to contact the botch-job garage and state your cause, also stating that you have written statement from another garage which you are prepared to use via small claims court if they don't admit liability. To be honest, you could go and say this even if your new mechanic is not willing to write it at this stage. Document absolutely everything, who you spoke to, what time, who did the work, keep all receipts, and start a log.
Ultimately, you want the costs of any remedial work reimbursing, and with any threat of legal action, they shouldn't want to go that far.
