156 120K service advice

Evening all,

Relating to my 1.9JTD 156. I've left the 120,000 mile major service interval go over a little and the car now has just over 123K on it, so it's getting to the point where it's probably advisable to get it done ASAP.

Now the cam belt was changed at the 60K service when I bought the car, and i've stuck fairly closely to the servicing schedule using a local indie garage ever since as it's my main transport.

The garage obviously know what they're doing and I trust them, but I just wanted to compare other owners experience of costs for this service.
I know it involves at least a new water pump as well, so expect it to be higher than normal, but 408 + VAT (i.e. 490) ?? That's a lot of dosh on a high mileage, 7 year old car.

What have other people paid for this service, and what else does it involve replacing.
Is it worth trying 'other' non-Alfa garages just to save a few quid if I know what they should be replacing? I assume the cost at a main dealer would be extortionate, but I just wanted to compare to set my mind to rest.....

Any (related!) experiences or thoughts appreciated y'all.

I paid about 500 for a cambelt (including water pump) change and service. This included the auxiliary belt.
This was last summer for my 2.4. This was at a Alfa specialist. Could be done cheaper at a back street garage, but didn't want to risk it.

I know the price had gone up a bit from the previous year - probably down to costs.

Would expect it to be slightly cheaper for the 1.9, as there should be more room in the engine bay, but probably not by much.

The belt had been change previously at 60k, (previous owner) about 4 yrs ago, and I ran out of guts when the car got to 117k, as I had thought about getting it done 10k previously. Was a bit of a risk, as the water pump is the weak spot. Mechanic also confirmed that I was lucky as the pump was quite worn!

Car is now on 125k. Squeal from auxiliary belt area (probably tensioner) is quite bad when the engine and or weather is cold / damp.

I spoke to another Alfa independent in the area (AFH1 at Mansfield), and they quoted "around the 500 quid mark, all in". They also said that they would beat any other quote from garages in the area.

As this was in the same ballpark as my usual garage of choice, Alfa Tecnico at Huthwaite, I simply took it there as they've always been spot-on in the past and i've never had any problems in the past. They also lent me their courtesy car for the day, which always helps. Better the devil you know, eh?
I do know that they've put the price up slightly since, but it's not a great increase (460 + vat = 552).

Hope this helps anyone else looking for similar advice out!
