Temperature checks

Hi all,
I know there are lots of posts re the stat and temperature guage readings so I thought I would carry out a comparison, guage v software.

I started the car from cold with numerous applications of throttle increase noting the temperatures at various levels. I used the ancient finger and thumb tip test on the top hose to tell me when the stat opened. Conclusion - the guage varies wildly from totally inaccurate to close so don't conclude your stat is shot without using software and the finger tip test.

Interesting. Mine still seems to be way lower then it should judging roughly by those graphs. I've got a new thermostat but will wait until my software lead comes so i can check the temp to be 100% sure.

There's certainly a big difference between gauge and actual on mine. 75ish on the gauge is 87/88 on software (Fiat ECU Scan or Android based "Torque") (2.4 20v)

It's had a new gauge as well, when it was under warranty and is on possibly the third new sensor now (trying to remember how many stats it's had - think this is the third currently).

So I concur

It proves one thing (apart from the gauge being very inaccurate) and that is the thermostat opens at 88C .. which it is meant to do.
