Thinking of getting

I'm lucky where I live there is literally one traffic light, hardly any traffic and no junctions to get to the motorway. Just one straight road.
The motorway's in the area of Seden I live are practically empty, so when I do drive its just proper open road stuff.
Had the 156 two weeks now and noticed that the temperature gauge when open road driving goes to about 75 (Half way between the base 50 and the mid 90) maximum. Should it be so low?
I've also noticed that when I do get into the City, or just sit with the engine on it will get up to the 90 midway mark on the dial. Never sat longer to see if it will over heat though.
Does that sound like a faulty thermometre or is it normal for Alfa 156's?
A bit concerned at the moment, as now the weather is warming up, I'm worried about engine over heats in the summer.
