Saturday. Sunny and hot. Just a short run out, a few things to do. Shop, go to my folks and dump some stuff at the tip and my 156 is ticking me off. Same old running rough from cold, same old knock from the front NS wishbone until it gets moving, same old variator rattle for a few seconds after starting and the same old 'stare at the warning lights and make sure that they've all gone out' before I put it in gear. Oakleys on, stereo on, air con on and lets go VW Golf hunting. Got a GTI on a 120 degree slip road off the inner ring road and Volumnia wasn't even trying. Steering wheel slightly cranked, 3000rpm in third, tyres gripping the road like crap to a blanket and Volumnia feeling like she was on rails. No feeling like it! God I love my car. Y'know what my missus said? "It's nothing like a Golf." I nearly choked with laughter. Enjoy your Pug, Nissan or Toyota or whatever you get next love. You probably deserve it.
