Hi there guys, I was hoping someone could hit me with some knowledge on sorting out the gear linkage bushes on my 147?
I am having trouble when selecting 3rd gear, especially at higher revs. I get a horrible crunch noise, although dont have any issues with the gear stick returning to the centre etc. I'm a bit confused at the correct solution, as I keep reading and hearing different causes and solutions to the problem. Some say swarf build up in the end casing, some say the plastic bushes need changing and lubing, and as usual the dealers say I need a gearbox change.
Firstly, what would you guys say is the most likely cause and repair? Secondly, if replacing the bushes, does anyone have a definitive guide with pictures on how to do this? Everyone keeps threatening to do one but cant see that anyone ended up doing one!
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to things of this nature, so terrified of screwing up something with the gearbox!!
I wouldnt feel comfortable taking this on unless I had step by step photos, and reluctant to take it in for someone else to do knowing I could probably do it myself (handy with odd jobs around the car but fairly unfamiliar with the engine).
Your guys help would be most appreciated!!!!
