Help Exhausting...

Guys, i've just noticed the exhaust at the back of my 156 1.8 looks really pants it doesn't really fit the cut out and is also pretty dirty. My mates brother (after dribbling & stroking my bella for a couple of weeks , went and bought himself a 2.0, now his exhaust fits the rear lovely .
What are the best options? i saw this reply to a post concerning tweaking a 147...

"- Manifold (replaces 1st cat)
- Decat pipe (replaces 2nd cat)
- Straight though centre section (replaces 1 silencer)
- Rear section.."

Replacing cats?? does this make it fail the MOT? I do currently love the sound of my bella (the v6 air intake mod helped ) So what are the options, how much would it be for the whole thing? am i going to notice much improvement performance wise & would i have to re-map the ECU after?
what prices would be the cosmetic route - just look and noise, with no improved performance. Although i dont want it to sound too `boy racy`, if u know what i mean Cheers
