156 Rear Subframe/Suspension

Hi Guys,

Can you tell me if the rear shocks, subframe, hub assembly and brake carriers on a alfa 156 2.4 10v JTD year 2000 are the same as any other car?

I need to replace the shocks as one has rusted to a dangerous point problem is the bottom bolt on the shock is rusted in place so im thinking of just replacing the whole lot. Preferably just the shocks, arm and hub assys, then refit my current brake calipers.

Is it a case of swapping the springs and calipers over from say a 2.0?? Or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance.

That bottom bolt is a 'stard in most cases - chop it & replace would be my advice, although, I did manage to remove mine with a lot brute force, heat, help from a friend....

I ended up grabbing a upright and hub and arm off a 147, all put back together and seems alright! You are definately right about that bottom bolt!!

Now to do wheel bearing on the other side! Half tempted to just get the other shock off the 147. new wheel bearing is £100 ish. The whole leg from the scrap yard was £25!!

I'd say replacing the whole unit is a lot easier than replacing the bearing - and they don't wear out that often....

Got to do the job on milady's Sportwagon...
